Digital Composers & Songwriters: A FREE video series to support Higher and Advanced Higher Music
Following consultation with Music Teachers, Edinburgh International Festival presents two video series exploring the creation of new music from leaders in their field. It is always great to hear from professionals in their field, and these videos bringing together leaders in the field to share their knowledge.
Digital Composers is a collection of free videos that find leading composers from around the world discussing their careers and providing tips and insights into the composition process. From Anna Meredith discussing her visual composing system to Sir James MacMillan’s early love of the recorder, there is a variety of advice and information to support Higher and Advanced Higher pupils developing compositions for their qualification.
Digital Songwriters is the partner project to Composers, but this series explores the songwriting process from some of Scotland’s leading songwriters and musicians. Stina Tweeddale (better know as rock outfit Honeyblood), Admiral Fallow lead singer Louis Abbot, rap artists Nova Scotia the Truth, and folk legend Karine Polwart all share the stories of their careers and advice on how to get into songwriting. Useful for any students who are writing their own songs, this series also supports Music students and the composition element of their qualification.
Both series are free and can be used in the classroom or passed to students to watch in their own time at home.
